In 2009, the Government of Saskatchewan announced the replacement of 13 long-term care facilities, including the Kerrobert and District Health Centre in Kerrobert, SK., to improve healthcare services across the province.

ft3 assisted the Heartland Health Region with planning the new facility and integrating the principles behind the Small House concept into the design, resulting in two 15-resident homes. Each home boasts natural light through expansive ground-level windows, a private room for family gatherings and a shared, secure landscape garden area. Residents can also take advantage of on-site services such as a multi-purpose room, a hair care centre and a cafe.

The design also combines acute care with long-term care, resulting in staff sharing housekeeping, laundry, dietary services and maintenance and administration to create a sustainable and efficient operation. In addition to 30 long-term care beds, the facility has eight acute care beds, emergency care, diagnostic services (including lab and x-ray), community health services, and a medical clinic.
