In 2009, the Government of Saskatchewan announced the replacement of 13 long-term care facilities to improve healthcare services across the province. In the Town of Biggar, the existing Diamond Lodge would transform into a new 54-resident, long-term care facility attached to the Biggar Union Hospital. The entire campus became the Biggar & Districct Health Centre.
ft3's design divided residents into 13 to 14-bed home configurations (Small House concept), combining long-term and acute care to provide sustainable support for a smaller, rural community. Staff share operations, including housekeeping, laundry, dietary services, maintenance and administration, to create efficiencies and provide holistic services to residents.
