Klinic Community Health Centre
After almost 30 years at 870 Portage Ave., Klinic Community Health had reached its capacity and was experiencing issues providing efficient and effective primary care services.
Meanwhile, the Sexuality Education Resource Centre (SERC), an organization that Klinic works closely with, had begun to experience similar operational challenges. In 2015, these agencies committed to co-locating their operations to a much larger facility in the heart of the West Broadway and Wolseley neighbourhoods.
Winnipeg Regional Health Authority retained ft3 through a competitive bid process to renovate 167 Sherbrooke St., an existing office and warehouse building, into Klinic and SERC's new health centre. We used an Integrated Design Process combined with Best Practice Clinic Design and LEAN Processes to determine the design and programming of the renovated facility, including a central reception and waiting area, exam and interview rooms, lab, medication rooms, and crisis and counselling rooms, an Aboriginal culture room, training/group and therapy/multipurpose rooms, offices, workstations, meeting rooms, staff gym, and showers. Additionally, all renovations must adhere to accessibility standards, ensuring equity within the space.
While Klinic provides services city-wide through its crisis lines and specialty health services, it's also a wonderful part of the West Broadway, Wolseley, and West End neighbourhoods. It exemplifies Winnipeg's grassroots and community spirit, symbolizing a vital part of the neighbourhood fabric and an essential hub of Health & Wellness for the surrounding residents.
