ft3 Project Highlight:

St. Boniface New Emergency Department

From an early age, Kaitlyn knew she wanted to be involved in the design profession in some capacity. While completing her Bachelor of Environmental Design at the University of Manitoba, interior design stood out to her due to the discipline’s focus on occupant health and safety. She continued with the university’s Master of Interior Design program, where she developed her practicum: The Psychology of Waiting: Designing for Satisfaction in Emergency Department Waiting Environments.

Kaitlyn joined ft3 in 2021 after gaining experience at other notable firms in the city as a junior and intermediate interior designer. Her main expertise lies within the firm’s Health and Wellness area, and she finds interest in acute care environments, where emotions dominate the user experience.

Psychology and the relationship between the user and physical space fascinate Kaitlyn, and she relishes the complexity, technicality, and challenges that healthcare design presents. Designing for this environment excites her as it requires thinking ahead, anticipating needs, and staying current on critical trends and technology. Her design approach aims to help users navigate spaces physically and emotionally throughout their healthcare experience.
