Living Gospel Church Family Place
The Living Gospel Church (LGC) has grown in size and reputation since its beginnings as a Bible study group and fellowship operating from a one-bedroom apartment unit in 1988. Now with two buildings and over 300 members, the church operates within Winnipeg's Centennial Neighbourhood, supporting meal programs, refugee sponsorship, and various outreach programs.
After many years of aspiring to open a facility for the local community called LGC Family Place, LGC partnered with Manitoba Housing in 2011 to develop an affordable 38-resident family housing complex and community space to provide support services for immigrant and refugee families living in Winnipeg. They retained ft3 to deliver architectural, interior, and landscape services to complete this affordable housing development on William Avenue.
Our design for the new housing complex includes units ranging in layouts from one to four bedrooms (three and four-bedroom suites being challenging to find in Winnipeg) to accommodate various family sizes. Meanwhile, a spacious communal room with an adjacent private outdoor terrace provides an alternative space to individual suite balconies, encouraging gathering and cultural sharing between building residents and community members.
The main level accommodates the LGC offices and features a large meeting/recreational space that staff, residents, and volunteers can subdivide into four classrooms to serve the community and nearby non-profit support and service organizations such as Welcome Place and the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba. Residents can also hold events on the main floor in the large multi-purpose room, complete with kitchen and storage services.
