As part of the Clinical and Preventative Services Plan (CPSP), Shared Health engaged ft3 to conduct a study providing recommendations to determine healthcare needs in Dauphin and the surrounding region. 

The results of the study noted a target of incorporating nine (9) additional beds within the Dauphin Regional Health Centre (DRHC). At the same time, one of CPSP’s main goals was to increase regional healthcare capacities. For DRHC, this mandate facilitated the expansion and improvement of endoscopy services, including Medical Device Reprocessing and CancerCare treatment space. 

The design concept focused on modifying areas across the main floor to relocate endoscopy and chemotherapy services that would allow an infill of patient rooms on the third floor, that had previously provided endoscopy procedures.

While the building’s footprint was a major factor in developing the clinic’s design, the new layout leveraged DRHC’s existing infrastructure to create a space rooted in patient well-being and recovery. 

Chemotherapy bays now sit along the building’s large existing windows, allowing patients to experience natural light and views of nature while receiving treatment. 

The glazed panels between each bay provide patients with privacy without hindering the flow of natural light into the space. Additionally, biophilic material choices further support patients' treatment and recovery, including the wood-like frames composing each panel.
