Dauphin Regional Health Centre

Emergency Department / Special Care Unit Redevelopment

625 - 3 Street SW, Dauphin, Manitoba

ft3 was engaged to deliver architecture, landscape and interior design services for the new Dauphin ED. Located within a residential neighborhood and bounded by the Vermillion River, a PCH, medical clinic, the community health services building and single family homes, the new ED will be approximately 1,246 sq.m. (13,411 sq.ft.), new and renovated areas, plus an ambulance garage for patient drop-off. The new ED will include: an enclosed ambulance garage, decontamination room, trauma/resuscitation rooms, exam rooms, treatment rooms, triage, waiting, observation rooms, supply/utility rooms, special care and support functions.

Key aspects of the design concept, as identified by staff, will respond to the need for a welcoming, inviting, accessible, approachable, secure, spatially and operationally efficient and fluid facility.

The design is based on proven operational planning criteria and Lean thinking. A long term master-planning objective will be the mindset for future additions, overall access and way-finding. Standards for health care design such as CSA Z8000-11 and infection control will be adhered to.

The project is currently under construction in 2016.
